The original 8 stripe Rainbow Pride flag.
Created by Gilbert Baker and flown for the first time ever over the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade on June 25, 1978. It is known that Mr. Baker often referred to the more common 6 stripe flag as “the commercial version”, not out of disrespect, but because the reasons behind the lost colors were practical, commercial reasons that had little to do with the flag itself or its meanings.
Thank you, Mr. Baker. Thank you.
